Hello and thanks for stopping by! My name is Chris Allman. Some folks know me because I sing tenor for, what I believe to be, the greatest trio singing gospel music… Greater Vision.
About 20 years ago, I set out to try my hand at song writing. I’ll have to be honest, my first compositions were less than impressive. One evening, as our lease bus rolled down the road, I had written a song and wanted to get an opinion on it. Gerald was driving so I had a captive audience! I took my place in the buddy seat and commenced to singing. Upon completion I asked, “Well, what do you think” to which Gerald replied, “You need to either pray for God to gift you in the area of song writing or QUIT! OUCH! Words that stung but truth that took root. That night I prayed and God graciously answered.
The next day we sang in a church in AL and the pastor preached from Ephesians on the full armor of God. The Lord used that sermon to inspire my first “good song”, Just Stand. We singled it and it went number 10! Obviously no credit to me. God gave the gift and He gets ALL of the glory. I know from whence my help comes.
Over the years, since that day, I’ve written nearly 100 songs. God has given me a little wisdom in regards to the writing process and I’d like to share with you what I’ve learned.
First of all, If you’re having trouble getting started, do what I did… Pray for the gift. Without His hand in what you do, your work will be futile.
Writing is a passion of mine. Whether it be songs, books or my other blog, I love to express myself through my writing. It’s therapeutic. I pray, if writing is a passion of yours, that I can be a source of encouragement.

Chris, I just started writing So. Gospel music this year. I prayed in my devotions at the first of the year for the Lord to use me in a special way. Then one Sunday, the pastor brought out in his message,
Which Side of the Cross are you living? It just hit home! I quickly jotted the phrase down. Went home and began to write the song, “Which Side of the Cross”. It took about 2 mo. to complete; then I wrote one about my dad (who was a Baptist pastor for over 50 yrs. He went to Heaven Dec. 30, 2008.) It is titled , “The Preacher”. Les Butler has been my crtique and makes my demos.
I give all the glory to the Lord because when I listen to the songs I have written I think, “Not my
work, but God’s.” I have been sending my demos out to groups, but have not heard any thing.
It gets discouraging sometimes, but I am sure if the Lord can give me these songs, He will bless them also. Thanks for the blogs.! Jeanette Bates

We’ll Have To See About What There My Bro Chris Allman.
Shelby is so funny, but she’s still a teenager until January 2, 2013…LOL! I became aquainted with you on socialcam so I recognized the name, but I’ve never heard you sing or any of your songs…I pray while I write, but I don’t know what to do with my songs and lyrics once they’re written…Should I pray about that too?
Absolutely, you should! God hears and will grant to us the desires of our hearts, if it glorifies Him.
